Some of the most useful radio questions begin in the field. In 2019, Bus Radio carried out a farmer education initiative with Kilimo Media.
The initiative focused on the invasive Ipomoea weed and sustainable farming practices, combining on-location interviews with farmers and a month of radio programmes on the same issues.
It included a farming learning visit in Kitui and a visit to the Osupuko Women Group in Purko ward to discuss the weed challenge, connecting the station’s broadcast work with conversations on the ground.
Community reporting moves between studio discussion and local observation. The experience of farmers helps shape which questions are put to guests and what information listeners need.
